Education
The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to practise teaching and learning effectively and in an educationally sound and professional manner.
The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education aims to address the needs that have been identified in the education sector to develop well qualified educators who are able to facilitate learning through the application of appropriate teaching practices based on, for example, the discipline and on the level of students.
The qualification design provides essential knowledge and training for those who are already lecturing or who have lectured in the Higher Education sector in their field of expertise, with limited knowledge of the educational principles that guide best practice teaching. Students will be well equipped to add educational value to their own discipline, to their learners and to support continuous improvement practices in any Higher Education institution. The curriculum of this programme includes a focus on higher education in the contemporary social and political context; education leadership and policy; contemporary learning theories and approaches; transformational curriculum theory and design; education research; and assessment practice.
These curricular elements are all focused on students’ personal disciplines in the context of South African higher education. The curriculum focuses on application-based assessment on topics to real or scenario-based higher education learning environments.
